New Program Benefits Vision Impaired
The Orange tax collector’s office is piloting a new program in conjunction with the state Department of Aging and Disability/Bureau of Education and Services for the Blind.
Starting with the July 2023 tax bills, the office will be able to mail tax bills in braille. Braille, according to the American Foundation for the Blind, is a system of raised dots that can be read with the fingers by people who are blind or who have low vision. The tax collector’s office is looking for candidates who would like to participate, and is encouraging all residents to inform anyone who might be eligible for this new program. Pre-setup is required.
