Obituary: Vincent P. Schmidt
Vincent P. Schmidt of Orange, CT peacefully entered eternal rest on December 15, 2023, at Milford Hospital, the place of his birth on Christmas Day in 1944. Born to Marcella (LaMarsh) and Cornelius Schmidt of West River St in Milford, CT he was the second of five boys. Vinny enlisted in the US Army shortly after high school during the Vietnam War era, serving as a medic in Georgia. Upon completing his term of service, he joined the USPS, where he worked as a postal carrier and eventually rose to the position of supervisor.
After a dedicated service of 33 years, Vin retired, embarking on extensive travels across the US and Europe with his wife and friends. His greatest joys in life included spending holidays with family, infamous golf trips with friends, and sharing the simple pleasures of fishing with the kids in the backyard and life on the lake. Devoted NY fan of the Yankees, Giants, and Rangers, he also coached softball and basketball, leaving a lasting impact on players he mentored and cherishing memories of his own sports-filled youth.
Vinny is survived by the love of his life, Barbara (Koziel) Schmidt, his devoted daughter Elizabeth, his brother Neal (Linda) Schmidt, and his mother-in-law (and root beer float buddy) Helen (Len) Koziel, along with numerous other loving family members here and abroad. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Louis, George, and Paul.
Known as the life of the party, Vinny will be fondly remembered by friends and family for his quick wit, exceptional sense of humor, and boundless generosity. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
