Obituary: John “Jack” Larkin
John “Jack” Larkin, 91, of Orange, CT beloved husband of Mary “Marge” Larkin, passed on February 25, 2023. Born on May 3, 1932, he was the son of the late J. Clement and Mary (Conlon) Larkin. Jack and Marge were married on September 2, 1954.
Jack attended Ansonia High School. He graduated from the University of Connecticut with the class of 1954. He joined the family real estate and insurance business and became an active member of the Valley Board of Realtors including serving as president. His career in real estate spanned 55 years.
In addition to his children, Kevin Larkin of Cheshire, Kathleen Larkin Kish of Milford, and Janet Larkin of Orange; Jack is survived by his grandchildren, Kelsey Larkin and Ceara Larkin of Stamford, Kayleigh Kish of Milford, and Jody DeGennaro of Ansonia; his sister Judy Larkin Nicolari, of Ansonia; his brother-in-law Richard Burkowsky and his wife Diana of Clinton; his sister-in-law Louise Burkowsky of Long Island, NY; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Jack’s sister Mary Elise (Larkin) Zarrilli and brothers Bill Larkin and George Larkin; and nephews Paul Zarrilli and Bill Larkin Jr. predeceased Jack.
Jack had a deep religious faith. While Marge was infirm at home, they watched Sunday and weekday masses on TV. After Marge passed, he attended mass multiple times a week. He also served as Eucharistic Minister. Jack helped many people including Marge as she struggled with Parkinson’s, family members, friends, and others. Very important to Jack were the years he spent as a volunteer Right to Life counselor helping to ensure that people had the benefit of knowing available parenting and adoption resources.
Jack deeply loved and was greatly devoted to his family. He loved family gatherings including Saint Patrick’s Day parties hosted by his sister Judy, and large family picnics. He loved to talk with people and find out what was happening in their lives. He enjoyed twice-weekly outings to church and Dunkin Donuts with his friends. The family is incredibly grateful to Val for picking up Jack and taking him home countless times.
Beyond family and friends, sailing with Marge on Long Island Sound was one of Jack’s greatest pleasures. He also loved music and enjoyed playing the piano. Glenn Miller was his favorite singer and the Connecticut Hurricanes his favorite drum corp. Jack also loved to read about history and had great empathy for the suffering of civilians and soldiers during war time.
