Mentee of Orange Resident Named Youth of the Year by Big Brothers Big Sisters of CT

Mekhi McCoter of New Haven has been named Youth of the Year by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Connecticut, the state affiliate of the 117-year-old Big Brothers Big Sisters of America youth mentoring organization.  The recognition was presented at the 2023 Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Year Awards event, held recently at the Mark Twain House & Museum in Hartford.  Mekhi, a senior at Eli Whitney Technical High School has been a Little Brother (mentee) in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program for the past ten years.  His Big Brother (mentor) in the program is Alex Beck, who lives in Orange and is Assistant State’s Attorney for the Milford-Ansonia Judicial District.  Mekhi McCoter was awarded for his consistent growth mindset, his commitment to his match relationship and his ongoing receptivity to new knowledge and insights.  Following high school graduation, Mekhi plans on spending time in the military where he’ll learn skills that will help him succeed later in life.
