Pasta Festa

Three individuals will be honored at the Living Treasure Award ceremony on June 15, 2023, from 5-8pm in the High Plains Community Center in Orange.  This year’s Living Treasures are Betty Hadlock, Rowland Hine, and Maureen White.

OVNA Health Chat

Join us on June 13 at 12:00; registered nurse Maria Biondi of the OVNA who will speak about Diabetes.  Call 203-891-4784 to reserve a seat.

Adult Coloring

Carol Imperati will lead us on the first Monday of the Month, June 5 at 12:30pm for Adult Coloring.  Lots of Fun!

Arts & Crafts

The Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s

June 19 at 1:00, the CT Alzheimer’s Association will be here to present The Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s.  Worldwide, more than 55 million people are living with Alzheimer’s or other dementia.  Early detection matters and can improve quality of life so know the signs.  Please call the Center to register at 203-891-4784 as seating is limited.  Refreshments will be served.

Drumming

Join us on Thursdays with Dennis at 11:00am for Drumming.  Limit 19 participants for this fun and aerobic activity.

Movie of the Month

Join us June 9 at 1:00pm for “The Fabelman’s.”  Growing up in post-World War II era Arizona, young Sammy Fabelman aspires to become a filmmaker as he reaches adolescence.  Chips and soda will be served.  Call to reserve a seat.

Classic Movie of the Month

Join us June 16 at 1:00pm for “Moonstruck.”  Loretta Castorini, a bookkeeper from Brooklyn, New York, finds herself in a difficult situation when she falls for the brother of the man she has agreed to marry.  Chips and soda will be served.  Call to reserve a seat.

Documentary & Discussion

Join us June 23 at 1:00pm for “The Unimaginable Journey of Peter Ertel.”  German war veteran Peter Ertel tells how he barely survived the Russian Front and the Battle of Normandy, became a U.S. Government agent in postwar Germany, and began a 25-year career working for a small company owned by Orthodox Jews.  Chips and soda will be served.  Call to reserve a seat (203) 891-4784.

Book Club

The book club normally meets the last Friday of the month at 2:00pm.  The next meeting will be in the senior lounge on June 30.  June’s book is “Mrs. Dalloway” by Virginia Wolf.

Hot Lunch Program

Lunch is offered Monday through Friday, 11:30am – 12:00pm.  No meals on Saturday, or Sunday.  A $3.00 donation is accepted for persons 60+.  Call Ellen at (203) 891-4765 to register.

Maplewood Culinary Presentation

Legal Clinic

The Law office of Floman DePaola has merged with Wiley, Etter, & Doyon, but they are still available the first Wednesday of each month for a free legal clinic.  Some things they will be able to help you with, while others may require an office visit and fee.  To schedule a phone appointment, call 203-891-4784.

Ice Cream Social

Griffin Hospital/Parish Nurses Blood Pressure Check

Maggie of Griffin Hospital will be here the last Friday of the month, June 30 from 10:30-12:00pm to take your blood pressure.  Stop by for this free clinic.

Brain Teasers

June 27 at 12:30pm, get ready to exercise those brain muscles!  Join Stacey for a fun memory boost at 12:30pm in room 4.

All American Pet Day

Pets make our lives better every day.  In honor of All American Pet Photo Day on July 11th, we’re putting together a slide show of our member and staff pets to show during lunch in the café that day.  Make sure you tell us your name, your pet’s name and what makes them so special to you!  Email your favorite photo to Dennis Marsh, dmarsh@orange-ct.gov by Friday, June 23rd.  Don’t forget to sign-up for lunch on this day and enjoy the show!

Hiking Group

Marianne and Judy will lead us in a 2 mile-ish, 1 hour walk every Thursday at 10am (9am from July, August, & September).  Meet at the location of the hike.

  • June 1:  Maltby Lakes, 585 Derby Ave. (Rt 34) West Haven.  Gates opens 9:40 to 10:00.  Park at top of the hill;
  • June 8:  Orange Triangle (aka Wepawaug Trails), 842 Mapledale Road, Orange;
  • June 15:  Ansonia Nature Center, 10 Deerfield Lane., Ansonia;
  • June 22:  Kelly Environmental Center/Osborne Museum, 500 Hawthorne Avenue, Derby;
