Tragedy and comedy masks, representing emotions.

How many of you have heard of or know about the Orange Players? The Players have been bringing live theater to the community and supporting local causes for fifty years. Founded in 1974, its first production was The Pajama Game performed at Mary L. Tracy school.

Over the years, the group has mounted two major productions annually, a straight play and a musical. Plays included The Diary of Anne Frank, Harvey, and The Man Who Came to Dinner. Musicals included Mame, Fiddler on the Roof, South Pacific, and The King and I.

Eventually, Amity with its talent and performance space took over musicals to great acclaim. The Players continue to perform plays, but for the past nine years have successfully captured an audience for a festival of ten-minute plays entitled Acting Up.

In addition to their stage productions, the Players have performed many cabarets for community groups as fundraisers and entertainment. They have also offered the annual Jerry Hoenig Scholarship to a graduating Amity Senior planning to pursue Theater Art Studies.

The Orange Players will mark this 50-year milestone with a Gala on November 9th at the American Legion Hall in Orange. The event will include Hors d'oeuvres, Dessert and Coffee catered by Chefs l'Orange. It's BYOB, glasses and ice provided. Raffles, door prizes and a musical revue will be part of the celebration.

Tickets are $55 and checks should be mailed to Donna Wesolowski at 873 Bayberry Lane, Orange, CT 06477 before October 15th 2024. Everyone is invited to share this celebration with friends old and new, memories, laughter, perhaps a few tears and music. For questions regarding this event, call (203) 799-3519 or (203) 577-8210.
