Take & Make: Cotton Stems

Pick-up beginning September 30 through October 5

Create a bouquet of “cotton stems” from crepe paper and wool roving with this take-home craft kit.  Instructions and most supplies will be provided.  You must provide scissors.  A glue gun is helpful, but not necessary to complete this project.  Registration is now open.  Click here to register!

Ban This Book Club: Oryx and Crake

Monday, October 7 at 7 p.m.

Join librarian Rebecca Harlow as we discuss Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood as a work of literature and an object of censorship.  This book has been banned or challenged in 6 states.  In August 2024, it was one of 13 books banned statewide by Utah’s state board of education, allegedly for its “objective sensitive material.”  It was included in a BBC list of the 100 Most Inspiring Novels and The Guardian’s list of 100 Best Novels of the 21st century.  A novel of the future, Oryx & Crake “explores a world that has been devastated by ecological and scientific disasters.”  Copies of the book are available at the Circulation Desk.  Register here!

Wednesday Book Group: Dreaming in Cuban

Wednesday, October 16 at 1 p.m.

Of Cristina García’s Dreaming in Cuban, Time Magazine wrote, “Her story is about three generations of Cuban women and their separate responses to the revolution.  Her special feat is to tell it in a style as warm and gentle as the ‘sustaining aromas of vanilla and almond,’ as rhythmic as the music of Beny Moré.”  Copies of this National Book Award finalist are available to borrow at the Circulation Desk.  The discussion will be facilitated in the Library by Librarian Ellen Miller.  Registration is required.  Sign up here!
