Fiddler extraordinaire Jeanne Freeman will join the P.V. O’Donnell Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann Irish music session on Thursday, December 20 at St. Gabriel’s Church Hall, 26 Broadway, Milford. The free session starts at 7:45 pm. BYOB. Musicians, dancers, singers and guests are welcomed.
Jeanne studied with the late Donegal fiddler P.V. O’Donnell, with whom she played for many years and in 2013 she founded the Connecticut Academy of Irish Music where she teaches fiddle and serves as Director. She has performed as the Irish fiddle soloist with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra at the Bushnell in Hartford and in 2018 was selected Guest Artist for Simsbury Public School’s String Festival. In addition to making guest appearances in traditional Irish music sessions throughout the region, Jeanne hosted, for many years, a weekly session in Hartford, a session she now hosts in Middletown, CT. She also teaches privately and has mentored a number of young players who have competed in the Fleadh Cheoil na nEireann (the All-Ireland Music competition). In 2014, she released her solo debut CD, “The Fiddler You Are.”
Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann was founded in 1951 in Ireland to promote Irish traditional music, song, dance and language. Today there are 415 branches worldwide and over two million people attend Comhaltas functions each year. For information on the upcoming session, call 203-876-9973.
