Sean Ronan is currently serving as 9th District Councilman and Council Majority Leader for the City of West Haven. During his time on the Council, Sean has supported both the Atwood Project and the Haven Project, which alone will create nearly 1200 jobs for local workers.
As your State Representative, Sean will focus on developing and passing fiscally responsible budgets that protects our priorities, such as education, job creation, public safety, and health care without putting undue financial burdens on working families. He believes we must support and develop an education system that encourages parents, teachers, administrators, civic leaders and business leaders to work together to develop curricula that prepare our students for today’s global economy. Sean will advocate for working families by investing in Connecticut’s economic infrastructure, such as roads, highways, light-rail, broadband Internet, worker training and education. Furthermore, Sean Ronan will continue his staunch support for a woman’s right to make her own health care choices and will advocate for efforts to provide quality affordable health care to Connecticut’s families.
For the past nineteen years, he has also upheld his oath to protect and serve the citizens of Bridgeport as a police detective. As a police officer, Sean has seen firsthand the devastation caused by drug addiction. He supports recent efforts to curb the heroin epidemic by providing uniform standards for insurance coverage and substance abuse treatment, strengthening prescription drug monitoring and strengthening penalties for possession and distribution of opioids.
Before becoming a police detective, Sean served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Persian Gulf War. Sean is fully aware of the challenges facing our Veterans and works tirelessly to ensure they are not forgotten. Recently, he spearheaded the formation of a Veteran’s Advisory Committee for the City of West Haven. Councilman Ronan is a lifelong member of VFW Post #9422 and the Disabled American Veterans #18.
Sean has been married to Debra for over 26 years, and has three children- Joseph (25), Ryan (21), and Irene (15). Their children are the 4th generation to reside in their West Haven home, originally purchased by his grandparents, Joe and Waleska Ronan in 1939.
