It is a natural instinct to donate items to a food pantry during Thanksgiving and the December holidays but, as stated on the Connecticut Food Bank website “hunger doesn’t stop after the holidays.” It is just as important to help fill your local pantries in February and March, especially after the severe winter experienced by Northeasterners.
Cub Scout Pack 923 based in Orange from Race Brook School recently coordinated a food and home supply drive in conjunction with their annual Pinewood Derby Car Race. The Scouts successfully completed two pledges from the Cub Scout Promise at this event. The first was “to do your best” by creating and racing unique cars they carved out of a block of pine. The second was “to help others” by collecting food and other items from their neighbors, friends and family members for delivery to the Orange Community Services food pantry.
The Scouts are encouraging local townspeople to donate a bag or two to the Orange food pantry or an organization of your choice this month.
