The Orange Board of Education will present to the Board of Finance a spending plan that carries a 2.39% increase over this current year’s budget.
The increase, according to minutes from the February 4 budget workshop, is due to increases in salaries, benefits, school needs, professional development and food services. The $20.1 million budget proposal is $465,843 higher than this year’s budget.
Superintendent of Schools Vince Scarpetti was unavailable for comment, but meeting minutes indicate that his focus while preparing the budget was: sustaining class size, creating strong foundations, strengthening teachers’ skills, ensuring safe schools, empowering students, enhancing communication and building TLC (maintenance).
The Board of Finance will discuss and vote on the budget at 7 p.m. March 22 at Town Hall.
