Orange Town Hall Art Space sponsored by the Orange Arts and Culture Council will be showcasing the photography of Alan Berkson during November and December. Alan Berkson is a practicing periodontist [a dental specialist in treating gum disease and placing dental implants] in Milford for more than 37 years and came to photography in 1975 when, as a graduate student, he was required to buy a 35 mm SLR to photograph patients and the work he performed. Also, as a student of the history of photography and an ardent collector of monographs of many photographers, he is self-taught and has been able to develop a style that began as black and white classic darkroom technique and in 1999 with the advent of digitization in photography, including scanning of slides and negatives, has in many cases given way to colorful, pigment on paper prints distinctly influenced by modern art. His office walls are covered with his prints and he has a website that is changed with some frequency to exhibit images both current and from his 40 years of photographing – www.omages.com. On the site are concept and portfolio statements that expand the information about this artist. He conjoins his vacation travel experiences with his passion for photography and has a loving and supportive wife who lets him manage both.
