With her friends and family by her side, Ida Julianelle celebrated her 106th birthday at Orange Healthcare Center January 28. She was joined by her sister Evelyn Ricci, 96, her son, Orange resident and former State Senator Bob Julianelle, and her daughter Carole Hopson and around 20 other residents of the healthcare center for a celebration that included cake, music and reminiscing about a long life.
Ida, a housewife who grew up in West Haven and in the late 1950s moved to Orange, has been a resident of Orange Healthcare for 10 years. She became a great grandmother on January 12.
“She has had a great life and her husband took great care of her,” her daughter Carole said. “We’ve been very lucky.” Ida has had no major health issues, according to her family. She was involved in the Lady of Victory and Holy Infant Church Guilds and was secretary of the Notre Dame High School Mothers’ Club while her son was a student there.
Ida, who didn’t see ‘why the big fuss’ at her 106th birthday party loves chocolate, jewelry and clothes and enjoys playing bingo. “I didn’t know I was so popular!” she said as her fellow residents joined her celebration. “Ida’s sweet as apple cider!” one resident exclaimed.
