Obituary: Joseph Greene

Joseph Greene “Joe” passed away unexpectedly, November 14, 2016 in Bangkok, Thailand, while vacationing overseas.  Born in Bridgeport, CT to the late Michael and Sadie Greene, Joe was a lifelong resident of CT.

Joe was a principal of Park City Foods in Stratford, CT and then went on to found Distribution Management Systems, a company that wrote computer solutions for the food distribution industry.  As President/CEO of DMS, Joe led and grew his company from 1979 until 2005 when he sold it to Advanced Food Systems (AFS Technologies).  In business as in life, Joe had the deepest respect for those he worked with and those he worked for.  He had the kindest heart and welcomed all to the table.

An avid skier for over 50 years, Joe was a board member and active contributor to the Sterling Ski Club and the CT Ski Council.  Joe was a Past Master member of the Lafayette Masonic Lodge in Fairfield CTand a member of the Baldwin Chapter # 13 R.A.M.  He served his country during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged from the US Army.  Joe received his Bachelor’s degree and Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Bridgeport where he served as a sportscaster and radio personality on WPKN.  He was an avid fan of the CT Yankees Rugby Football Club.

Joe leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 48 years, Constance Greene and his two sons Michael (Amy Romatzick ) and Jonathan (Kristine Morgan).  Joe leaves four grandchildren that he treasured with his whole heart, Nicole Brianne, Hazel, Sofia and Evan.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Joseph’s name to the Bridgeport Rescue Mission, 1069 Connecticut Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06607 or to The “Papa Joe Greene Kids Ski Awareness Day Program Foundation” C/O Wells Fargo Bank, 20 Cherry Street, Milford CT 06460, Attn:  Joanne Citrella.  The Memorial Service was held at the Smith Funeral Home, 135 North Broad Street, Milford CT on November 30, 2016.
