Dr. George W. Benz, 61, passed away on February 9, 2015, at his home in Tennessee. Survivors include his wife, Judith (Dwyer) Benz, his mom, Mary Benz of Orange and his sisters, Deanna Mancino (Bob), Pamela Cianci (Mike), and MaryEllen Conhois (Richard). He was predeceased by his Dad, George W. Benz. He also leaves nephews, Nick, Jeffrey and Andre and nieces, Lauren, Amy and Georgia, as well as many cousins.
George grew up in Orange and attended local schools. He received his B.S. (1976) and M.S. (1980) from the University of Connecticut and his PhD (1994) from the University of British Columbia.
He was a Professor at Middle Tennessee State University and authored many papers and books on Ichthyology and Parasitology. George was passionate about his research on sharks and other topics and Graduate students and colleagues who were special to him. He was a unique person and will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
