David F. Waters, age 76 of Rehoboth Beach, DE departed this life at home on Monday, April 3, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Friday, October 4, 1940 in Dayton, OH, son of the late Robert Waters and Doris Garwood Waters.
Mr. Waters graduated Fitchburg State College (University) Fitchburg, MA with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. He began his career as an Auto Shop teacher and basketball coach in Fairfield, CT. Dave then moved on to District Manager for Buick Motor Division in the New York area where he worked for 17 years. Following his time in NY, he then moved to the Mid Atlantic area to pursue a business opportunity in automobile restyling. After finishing his career in the automotive industries, Dave returned to his true love of teaching as a substitute teacher. When ill health struck in 2016, Dave retired from substitute teaching at Sussex Technical School.
Dave lived life to the fullest. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed all outdoor sports, but his passions were hunting and sporting clay shooting where he earned numerous championship titles. He was a longtime member and volunteer of Ducks Unlimited where he had served at state and local levels. He also started the youth Ducks Unlimited Chapter at Sussex Technical School. He loved working with youth and will be remembered for his teaching and nurturing. Dave cherished time with his family and was very proud of his children and grandchildren.
Dave was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth. He was an active volunteer there with fundraisers, Men’s Club, International Student Program and wherever help was needed. He always had a love of music and played the trumpet as a young man. He recently began playing again with the Rehoboth Beach Concert Band.
Dave was known as one of the “good guys”. Always kind, always fun, and always willing to help.
In addition to his parents, Dave is preceded in death by his brothers, Bruce and Joseph Waters, and a grandson Michael David Waters. He is survived by his wife, Jean Marnett Waters; his 4 children: Lynne Waters Beliveau (David) of Ashburn, VA, Sharon Waters Tudino (Frank) of Orange, CT, Keith Waters (Danell) of Village of Lakewood, IL and Jennifer Waters Bronson (William) of Orange, CT. He is also survived by 2 step sons Michael Toni of N. Avoca, TX and Robert Toni of Providence, RI. Dave had 9 grandsons, 2 granddaughters and 1 great grandson who all brought great joy to his life.
Memorial services were held April 15 at Epworth United Methodist Church, Rehoboth Beach.
