Obituary: Aggeliki Chatzopoulos

Aggeliki Chatzopoulos, 74, passed away peacefully on August 31 at her home in Makrisia, Greece.  She was the devoted wife of Dionisios “Dennis” Chatzopoulos for 56 years.

Aggeliki was born February 9, 1944 in Makrisia, Greece, to the late Konstandinos and Vasiliki Karachristos.  Aggeliki immigrated to New Haven in 1987 with her family and was an employee of the Strause-Adler Company until joining her husband, son and daughter in the restaurant business.  In 2003, Aggeliki and her family bought Chip’s Family Restaurant in Orange, where she became known for her delicious, homemade cooking.  Customers of Chip’s came to know and love “Mama,” and her famous Greek and American cuisine.

In addition to her husband Dionisios, she leaves behind her son Panagiotis (Katerina) Chatzopoulos of Athens, Greece; Vasiliki (Fotis) Koufolia of Makrisia Greece; George Chatzopoulos and Dina (Adam) Bajko of Orange, CT.  She is the beloved grandmother of Maria-Angela Chatzopoulos, Eleni, Aggeliki and Thanasi Koufolia and AJ and Alexander Bajko.  She is also survived by her brother Gregory Karachristos of Hamden, nephew Kosta (Angela) Karachristos of North Haven and niece Vasso (Robert) Spanos of Norwalk.

Donations can be made in honor of Aggeliki Chatzopoulos to the Altzheimer’s Association, 200 Executive Boulevard #4B, Southington, CT 06489.
