Long-time resident Kevin Cornell has been appointed to the Town Plan and Zoning Commission to serve on the board until November. He fills the seat vacated by former Chairman Walter (Beau) Clark who left the post in May after serving for more than a decade.
Cornell, who is currently the head of construction for Midwood Management in NYC, has more than 30 years of experience in construction and real estate development all over the East Coast as an engineer, project manager and developer. He holds a BSE degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ, and a law degree from the University of Bridgeport. He has a professional engineering license in New York and is member of the Connecticut Bar Association.
He and his wife Mary have lived on Green Hill Road for 32 years and have raised four children who went through the Orange school system and Amity Senior High. Of his new appointment Cornell said, “My training and work experience are a perfect fit for this position. Orange has been terrific to me and my family and I want to give back to the community.”
Of his appointment, First Selectman Jim Zeoli said, “Kevin Cornell was chosen after a lengthy process meeting with a host of incredible candidates for the position. He has both a Law Degree and an Engineering Degree and has worked countless projects in many capacities. I believe Kevin will prove to be an invaluable asset to the Zoning Commission.”
Cornell intends to be on the Republican ballot to hold his post on the TPZC in the November election.
