Jewish Community Center Events – 4/8/16

All events take place at the JCC, 360 Amity Road, Woodbridge

 Introduction to Kabbalah

Thursday, March 31; April 7 & April 14 – 7-8:30 p.m. join instructor Justin Beck in exploring questions of Jewish spirituality such as:

What is the meaning of life?

What does it mean to be Jewish?

How can I make my life more meaningful and fulfilled?

The Jewish answers to these questions and many more will be addressed in the three-part series. Cost is $45 for JCC members or $50 for community members. For more information contact Mara Balk at marab@jccnh.org.

April School Vacation Camp

Monday, April 18-Friday, April 22, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Extended care available. When school is out the JCC is in! Join us for a week of fun and meeting new friends. The week includes an inflatable obstacle course, tie dye crafts, a magic show by Danny Magic, screening of the Disney Pixar film “Good Dinosaur,” and kite making. Book Launch For Author Marc Wortman

Tuesday, April 19, 7-9 p.m., please join the JCC of Greater New Haven in this book launch featuring Marc Wortman and his new novel, 1941: Fighting the Shadow War: A Divided America in a World at War. Book Celebration For Author Betsy Lerner

Sunday, May 15, 4 P.M. please join us in this author showcase featuring New Haven native, Betsy Lerner and her memoir, The Bridge Ladies. Betsy will sign books and there will be a panel with the Bridge Ladies. This event is free and open to all! Coffee and desserts will be available. IsraelFest New Haven

On Sunday, June 5, the Jewish community will host IsraelFest New Haven on the JCC Campus in Woodbridge from 2-6 p.m. From 2-4 p.m. There will be an Israeli carnival featuring food, educational booths, dancing, games and much more. The festival will feature a concert at 4pm with Yemen Blues, an extraordinary Israeli fusion band combining Middle Eastern and jazz influences. IsraelFest is free and open to the community.

IsraelFest, a collaboration of Greater New Haven synagogues and the Jewish Federation, also known as Kesher, unites the broader community in celebration of the anniversary of Israel’s Independence. Rabbi Rona Shapiro of Congregation B’nai Jacob said that she “recalls wonderful Israel celebrations with her family in Cleveland, OH” and said she “looks forward to creating a special experience in New Haven”.
