Girl Scout troop 60140 celebrated Girl Scouts of the USA’s Birthday on March 12th this year with two potential future Girl Scouts. Girl Scouts of the USA was started 104 years ago on March 12th, 1912 when Juliette Gordon Low sold her precious pearls, given to her on her wedding day, for supplies to start her own troop of girls, which is why on the week of March 12th Girl Scouts wear pearls to remember her act of giving. Juliette reached across many barriers to ensure that all girls including those with so-called disabilities were able to join Girl Scouts of the USA and have a place to grow and develop leadership skills.
To honor this special day our Girl Scout Troop, wearing our pearls, went to Yale New Haven Hospital to donate two baskets full of supplies for babies along with two cuddly Build-a-Bears which were given out to the first two girls that were born on March 12th 2016. We have received one thank you note stating that she, “hopes her child will become a future Girl Scout when she is able to.”
