Your presence is requested on Saturday, June 17 at 1:00, when the Friends of the Case Memorial Library will have a town-wide celebration of its 25th Anniversary. The program will begin with the presentation of the Lucy Scillia Scholarship to a graduating Orange high school student. This will be followed by our First Selectman honoring those whose idea it was to create a “Friends” group. You will also be able to exclaim and wonder at the creative talent of our residents who have knitted and crocheted the ‘yarn bombing’ all over the library.
Then, while we enjoy some refreshments, we can listen to a musical program presented by the Ragtime Stompers. The band features former Amity Regional High School physics teacher Art Hovey on tuba, Jim Caplik on trumpet, Brooks Low on clarinet, Don Harvey on trombone, and Ed Stern on piano. They have been rehearsing and performing at New Haven’s Neighborhood Music School for several years, gradually developing an extensive repertoire of “twentieth century music” including traditional jazz, blues, hymns, pop tunes, and rags. Historical commentary will be given along with the music. The group has performed at numerous venues in the New Haven area.
What could be better than to spend some time at the Library honoring the “first Friends,” nibbling on food, and enjoying a wonderful concert? Please join us by registering in person at the library or by calling 203.891.2170.
