Finding Help for Seniors Living at Home

Finding Help for Seniors Living at Home

The Agency on Aging of South Central Connecticut (AASCC) has a new service entity, Care Network Link, to help seniors and caregivers find help to live in their own homes as long as possible. The website address is www.CareNetworkLink.org. “The main value of our website is that we have credentialed all the providers before allowing them into our network” explains Ted Surh, President and CEO of the Agency, “you can rest assured that these companies are properly insured, have up-to-date certifications and licenses, and have met our standards of excellence.”

The website offers a wide range of services: live-in care, home delivered meals, emergency response systems (such as fall buttons), in-home hearing evaluations, home modifications (including wheelchair ramps, stair glides, bathroom grab bars, etc), professional organizing, personal care assistants, companions, homemakers, in-home hair stylists and other services to help those who want to remain in the comfort of their own home and be able to enjoy that lifestyle.

Membership to Care Network Link is free and members are entitled to discounts from the providers in the network. There are many other resources available to help. For example, the Caregiver Corner features many helpful articles related to caring for aging individuals and how to be an effective caregiver. For those who may need help deciding which services are appropriate, there are Care Advising services available for a fee. Care Advising is available over the phone or for in-home visits.

Another value is that the provider search is tailored to the town you specify and displays a very manageable list of choices vs. internet searches which can bring up hundreds of unknown providers. It is strongly recommended to research providers before letting them into your home, yet most people don’t know what questions to ask. When seniors are going through transitions, having a short list of credentialed providers makes the selection process much simpler and less stressful. Care Network Link does the homework so you can rest assured that the service providers in the network are quality-centered businesses with well-trained and trustworthy employees.
