Doc’s Race 2015 Free for Those 65 and Older

Doc’s Race 2015 Free for Those 65 and Older

Get your mismatched socks ready because the 3rd Annual 5K “Doc’s Race” is happening in Orange at the High Plains Community Center on Sunday, June 28th at 10:00 a.m.!

George “Doc” Whitney was well remembered as a veterinarian in Orange, but in his later years he was also known for being a runner. “Doc” started running at the age of 80 and participated in just about every 5K race in the state, and many in New England from then on. When he passed away at 94 in 2013 his family requested that a 5K Road Race and Fitness Walk be held in his name in Orange. All of the proceeds this year will go to the George “Doc” Whitney Memorial Scholarship Fund.

In addition to the Race and Fitness Walk there will be two “Fun Runs with Spiderman” starting at 9:20 a.m. You can find applications for both the Race and the Fun Run at the Orange Park and Recreation office at 525 Orange Center Road. Applications are also available online at www.hitekracing.com and you can register online until June 23.

One special feature of “Doc’s Race” is that there will be no registration fee for people 65 and up. However, this is only for participants who mail in an application and pre-register by June 20. You will not be able to take advantage of this offer online.

For more information, please call Race Director, Joe Riccio at (203) 481-7453 or email him at wssac-ct@juno.com Or you can call Race Coordinator, Jane Opper, at (203) 795-9351.
