Dining With Susan: Grimaldi’s Italian Kitchen

Dining With Susan: Grimaldi’s Italian Kitchen

Grimaldi’s Italian Kitchen in Woodbridge (featuring a brick coal-fired pizza oven) opened October 2014. Local residents now have the New York Pizza from Grimaldi’s (under the Brooklyn Bridge) right here in New Haven county.

From 1890-1930, Italians flocked to the United States, creating legendary Meccas in places like Brooklyn, New York and, of course, New Haven, Connecticut. With them came many massive cultural contributions, a zest for life, an unmovable spirit, energy and a legacy of culinary greatness. In many ways, Italian Americans truly created a restaurant experience in the new world.

Grimaldi’s was an integral part of the wave. It is fully dedicated to bringing their customers the Italian classics we all love, the way we love them. Grimaldi’s Italian American immigrant recipes have not changed since 1917-nor will they ever. They use only the finest, freshest, local and Italian imported meats, cheeses and sauces. They make everything from scratch and this won’t change as well. Grimaldi’s has been voted one of America’s best for over 100 years. It seeks to continue that tradition with its full menu now offering, in addition to pizza & calzones, many great choices of dinner entrees and pasta dishes.

You can “build your own pasta” by picking a pasta (6 choices) and a sauce (9 choices) and add-ons such as sausage, chicken, salmon, etc. (8 choices). All entrees are served with a fresh house salad or soup, and you can also pick a pasta & sauce. I had Chicken Francese over cheese ravioli (loved it). Also, would highly recommend the house-made cannoli for dessert. In addition, a wide range of appetizers, salads, Panini’s, subs, & desserts are offered. The restaurant seats approximately 140 and features a main dining room, a 24-seat private party room called “The Woodbridge Room” and a designated room which serves a full bar complete with a select wine list and a large assortment of beers and spirits. Specialty drinks are made with muddled fresh fruits and fresh-squeezed juices.
