Blending History With Music

Blending History With Music

The Friends of the Case Memorial Library invite you to its Annual Meeting to be held on Saturday, June 8, at 1:00.  The business portion of the meeting will focus on the contributions the Friends have made to the Library.  This will be followed by board elections and the awarding of the Lucy Scillia Scholarship to a deserving Orange high school graduate.

To celebrate the close of a very successful year, the Friends will introduce an exciting program presented by music historian Rick Spencer and fellow devotee of American historical songs Dawn Indermuehle titled, “Songs of America at War.”  This performance is part of a series of their “well-researched concert/lectures with a strong focus on entertainment.  Their song list will include songs of pathos, describing tragedy, loss, fear and hope, and others more humorous.  We will hear period songs, some well-known, others more obscure, along with a discussion of the issues, events and personalities of the wars.”  The duo “uses these songs to illustrate the evolution of our nation’s culture and history in an informative and entertaining way.”

Rick Spencer was a staff musician, researcher, and program developer at Mystic Seaport Museum.  His career also includes touring with a sea chantey quartet throughout the U.S. and Europe and working at two historic house museums in eastern Connecticut.  Dawn Indermuehle “researches and develops program material and creates period-appropriate vocal accompaniment.”  She also performs as a member of different ensembles.

The Friends encourage you to celebrate with us and to enjoy another musical program.  Light refreshments will be served.  Registration is required.  Call 203-891-2170 or go to www.casememoriallibrary.org.
