On May 23, 2016, Turkey Hill School had the privilege of having Author, Alan Katz make three presentations to grades one through six throughout the day. As a print and television writer, Alan Katz has majored in silliness for more than 30 years. During that time, in addition to his many picture and poetry books and latest chapter books, he’s written for a whole bunch of TV shows, several editions of the Grammy Awards and Tony Awards and Kids Are People Too. He’s done lots of Nickelodeon projects and written articles for the New York Times and the New York Daily News. He’s even created hundreds of comic books, trading cards and web videos. During Mr. Katz’s visit, students were entertained by his lively connections between family and everyday life and the development of his life work as an author. He inspired students through shared photos, discussions, videos, book clips, and sing-alongs. He presented autographed copies of books ordered by the students and he graciously answered questions and posed for photos with students. Mr. Katz’s visit was an opportunity for students to experience how the writing they participate in daily can develop into a true craftsmanship as a professional through perseverance. High fives, smiles and waves were all signs that Author Alan Katz inspired the students at Turkey Hill into becoming our next generation of great authors.
