Amity Regional School District Presents 2015 Hall of Honor Ceremony

Amity Regional School District No. 5 will be hosting its annual Hall of Honor ceremony on Monday, May 4th 2015, at 5:30 PM at the Grassy Hill Country Club in Orange. This ceremony honors past Amity graduates who consistently demonstrate the highest standards of excellence and honor in his or her chosen vocation, including leadership, innovation, excellence, integrity, and dedication. These candidates are the prime example of what it means to be an Amity student, and exemplify the Amity mission statement by being “a lifelong learner and a literate, caring, creative, and effective world citizen”. This year, Amity will be inducting five excellent candidates, with careers spanning from the fields of medicine, public service, business, and the fine and performing arts.

The inductees from the field of business are Neal DeLaurentis and Alan Flaumenhaft. DeLaurentis, class of 1979, is the Vice President of the Soros Economic Development Fund. Flaumenhaft, class of 1984, is the CEO of the Freedom Disability and Altegra Health.

Being honored for her success in the field of adolescent medicine is Dr. Paula Braverman. Braverman, class of 1974, is the Director of Community Programs and Interim Medical Director for the Division of Adolescent and Transition Medicine at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. She is also a professor of pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati.

In the field of fine and performing arts, Amity is pleased to induct Jeff “Gitty” Gitelman, class of 2000. Gitelman was a member of the band, Stepkids, and has toured with prestigious artists such as Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys, and Stevie Wonder.

Being inducted for his contribution to society through public service is William Galston, class of 1963. Galston is the Ezra K. Zilkha chair in the Brooking Institution’s Governance Studies Program and a professor at the University of Maryland. In the past, he has worked under former President Bill Clinton and former Vice President Al Gore.

This will be the 9th year of the event for the Amity Regional School District No. 5, and has been organized by Dr. E. Marie McPadden, Director of Curriculum and Staff Development for the district. “Amity has provided graduates with the confidence and tools necessary to become successful in life. The Hall of Honor inductees exemplify the possible outcomes of an Amity educational experience,” said Dr. McPadden when asked about this year’s inductees.

Amity Regional District No. 5 is located in Connecticut and oversees Amity Middle School-Bethany, Amity Middle School-Orange, and Amity Regional High School. The school district provides an exemplary education to our students, with the goal of enabling every Amity student to become a lifelong learner, and a literate, caring, creative, and effective world citizen.
