On April 3rd Amity Middle School in Orange hosted its 9th annual “Giving Hair and Hope” event. This amazing evening not only raises funds for St. Baldrick’s Foundation to fight childhood cancer, but also collects ponytails to donate to Pantene Beautiful Lengths, who makes wigs for cancer patients. This year over 100 staff, students, and community members volunteered, “braved the shave,” or donated ponytails. Amity’s Pop Warner Cheerleaders also performed to help kick off the event.
Leading up to the event staff and students participated in an annual volleyball tournament organized by one of Amity Middle School’s Physical Education teachers, Mike Blumenthal. Students also raised more than $2,000 with “Money Wars” where teams competed against each other for points by donating change. Seventh grade’s Team Y was victorious in this war donating more than half of the proceeds.
Overall, this year’s event raised more than $18,000 for St. Baldrick’s and collected a record number of 30 ponytails. This is an amazing event that brings kids together to help kids.
