American Legion Post 127 of Orange has been providing ceremonial rifle volleys at veteran’s funerals for many years using WW l Springfield rifles. These ancient weapons misfire, jam and are worn out to say the least.
Since the State budget problems have stopped the payment of firing squad services at military funerals, Post 127 has stepped up to the plate and volunteers its services at no charge at local military burials. We are in contact with the funeral homes that service Orange, Woodbridge, West Haven, Milford, Shelton, Derby, and Ansonia to coordinate these services with those provided by the Department of Defense.
As of this week, The Department of Defense has issued new, more reliable, (WW II) M 1 rifles, modified as to only fire blank rounds to Post 127. The firing squad with their new rifles is pictured above.
